As the 2012-13 academic year comes to a close, the NJAPPA membership celebrates accomplishments while remembering the challenges we have all experienced. Many of our colleagues, vendors, and friends are still recovering from the devastation of Super Storm Sandy. The communities along the shore are slowly, but surely making their way back, so as we begin to enjoy the summer weather, remember to visit and support the areas in need. Service and volunteer opportunities still exist in many areas, so please visit http://www.jerseycares.org/ to find something that might be of interest.
I have the pleasure of welcoming two new members to the Board of Directors of NJAPPA. Charles Nieves, NJIT and Todd Miller, Centenary College join the Board as Directors at Large. Dave DeHart, Rutgers University, remains on the Board as Treasurer along with Bob Cornero, Monmouth University, as Director of Technology. As we move into the future, having some added assistance on the Board will allow us to remain a high functioning organization and build on the progress of the past few years.
For NJAPPA, we had an unmatched year for professional development; NJAPPA business partners presented thirteen topics of interest to our membership. Our Spring Conference at the Stockton Seaview Resort gave the membership the opportunity to “Push It Up” with the Wingman, Rob “Waldo” Waldman and learn more about the human brain with Brian Thwaits. Both of these presenters received rave reviews and we hope to build on this momentum for future conferences. Please visit the conference and meeting pages to download the technical presentations from these events.
Speaking of future conferences…..our friends in NYAPPA are hosting the ERAPPA 2013 regional conference this year in Rochester, NY. We hope to see all of the New Jersey higher education institutions and business partners at this event. To learn more, visit http://www.erappa2013.org/. Our higher education institutional members should consider applying for the ERAPPA ambassador scholarships to help defray the conference cost.
Finally, New Jersey will be the host for the ERAPPA conference in 2014 at the beautiful REVEL resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Preparations are already well underway and volunteers are still needed to fill out our host committee. E-mail Andrew Christ or Mark Showers if you are interested in helping and have not yet been placed on a committee.
Thank you all for your support this year! I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Sincerely,
Andrew P. Christ, PE
