Recent Past SNEAPPA Events
Lasell College - The first business meeting of SNEAPPA's 2012 schedule was held at Lasell College in Auburndale, MA on Thursday, March 15. Mark Fournier and his colleagues designed a thoughtful and timely program in support of “Implementing the Goals of the President's Climate Commitment.” Beautiful campus - great presentation.
University of Rhode Island, NBC - The NARRAGANSETT BAY CAMPUS (NBC) of URI hosted the Spring SNEAPPA Conference April 13, 2011. In addition to the beautiful water views, the dual track program provided detailed information on several hot topics. Track 1 focused on PCB policies and remediation, and was hosted by Kimberly Tisa, EPA Region 1; Vern Wyman, URI AVP for Business Services; and Jeff Hamel, Woodard &Curran. Track 2 highlighted equally compelling themes of Pest Management, (replete with bedbugs, IPM and RFP discussions) presented by the URI trio of Bonnie Jacob, Doug Michael, and Tracey Angell; and, Behavioral Modification to Improve Energy Management, presented by Dave Lamb, URI; and Scott Finlinson, Noresco.
The afternoon tours presented venues not often seen at SNEAPPA meetings, and included the RI Nuclear Science Center, The Research Vessel Endeavor, and The Inner Space Center. The Nuclear Science Center presented views into the core of an active reactor, thirty feet below the water’s surface. The RV Endeavor gave views into the living/working conditions of an active NSF research vessel – which departed for research two days after the conference. The Inner Space Center showed the culmination of the vision presented by Dr. Robert Ballard at the ERAPPA conference in Mystic, Connecticut in 2006; and showed the operations center that manages active underwater research throughout the world through electronic controls and monitors. Beautiful campus - great tours.
Boston College
The Fall Meeting this year was held November 10, 2010 on the Chestnut Hill Campus of Boston College at Corcoran Commons, with an aggressive agenda that included three major presentations (Administrative Program Reviews, Commissioning, and Building Restoration) and two tours. Mike Pimental, BC Institutional Research, presented the Administrative Program Review (APR) as BC's planning process that provides an on-going approach to assessment, planning and improvement, and included a panel discussion that covered the benefits and methodology at the department level. Terence Leahy, Boston College; Mark LeBrun, PE/Affiliated Engineers; and Howard J. McKew, CPE/RDK Engineers; presented the Commissioning component and highlighted best practices. The exterior renovation of Gasson Hall, BC's historic/iconic building, was covered by John Romeo, BC Facilities and Wendall Kalsow, McGinley Kalsow Associates, and rounded out the morning. An excellent buffet lunch followed by selective tours of the beautiful Chestnut Hill campus closed out the day. Thanks to our hosts at BC for a job well done.

University of Massachusetts, Amherst sponsored The Summer Meeting on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Amherst is the flagship campus for the University of Massachusetts system and sits on nearly 1450 acres in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. UMASS presented several educational sessions designed around its Master Plan, CHP, Sustainability, and GIS for Facilities Management. Along with these valuable and informative sessions, SNEAPPA institutional representatives voted on new Board members and the Chapter was updated on all business, ERAPPA, and APPA-related issues. And of course, as part of our annual tradition, SNEAPPA offered "Surf & Turf" for lunch! For more titillating details, meeting minutes, and pictures, click here
Bridgewater State College hosted the Spring 2010 Meeting on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Founded in 1840, Bridgewater State College is one of America’s first teacher preparation institutions, and provides a broad range of graduate and undergraduate degree programs through its School of Graduate Studies, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Education and Allied Studies. The Facilities Department put together two informative educational programs for the morning program as well as a campus tour following lunch. The first session detailed the college’s $10.4 million energy and water conservation initiative with the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM), and Ameresco. A discussion of their transition from a Facilities Department to a Facilities Management and Planning Operation followed the morning break. Our thanks to Bridgewater State College for hosting the program and for sharing their beautiful campus with SNEAPPA.

Are you looking to join? : Joining Southern New England APPA is really simple. Come to a meeting. That's it. Unlike its parent organization APPA and ERAPPA where there are costs (and good benefits), SNEAPPA just requires you to come to a meeting and pay for your meal. It really is that simple, whether you are a business partner, an affiliate member of APPA or ERAPPA, or part of a college/university. If you need more information, please contact any officer on the Board (see the Current Officers link). We meet 3-4 times a year and it is a great opportunity to interact with members of the various institutions and businesses. If you are looking to be involved in ERAPPA, please go to www.erappa.org
