The ERAPPA 2010 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA is less than eight months away and the 2010 Host Committee has been hard at work forging the future for another stellar event!
The Call for Presentations was issued just before the end of 2009 and submissions have already started rolling in. The primary professional development categories under consideration are: emerging technology, the young professional, succession planning, and riding the energy wave. The submission deadline is February 19, 2010.
A limited number of exhibition spaces and sponsorships are still available for the Annual Meeting. These exhibition and sponsorship opportunities allow business partners to interact with institutional members including during meals, between educational sessions, while golfing, or during our spectacular planned events.

The Eastern Region is pleased to announce two extremely qualified,
hardworking and dedicated individuals from the Eastern Region are on
the ballot for positions on the APPA Board. On Saturday, February 6th,
the APPA Board approved the slate of candidates which include Glenn
Smith (Bryn Mawr College/DVAPPA) and Darryl Boyce (Carleton
University/OAPPA) have been nominated for the APPA Board. More
information will come in the weeks/months ahead.

A Decade of Infilled Synthetic Turf – What Have We Learned? |

Synthetic turf options for playing fields from the mid 1960s until the mid 1990s were limited to nylon products, such as Astroturf. These turf systems consisted of a conventional knitted nylon carpet placed over a rubber crumb elastic layer, which was paved in place over an asphalt, concrete, or stone base. They were expensive, abrasive, and had a reputation for being hard and contributing to “foot lock” related joint injuries.

The Atlantic Chapter of APPA continues to have a busy and productive year. The first major event of 2009 was the annual Business Meeting held at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 21-22, 2009. Thirteen institutions attended and presentations included Interuniversity Services, SimplexGrinnell: Emergency Communications Systems and a roundtable discussion regarding issues affecting Facilities Management Departments.

Chapter Update - DVAPPA (Delaware Valley APPA) |

DVAPPA has been working through some change in leadership as well as trying to get back on track with quarterly meetings. Ben Suplick took over as acting president of DVAPPA in later 2009 after serving as vice president. A search for a new vice president is currently underway. Despite these changes, the chapter remains energized and active with both institutions and business partners communicating their interest and support. Membership renewal has begun and new members and business partners are being invited to join.

Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Dalhousie University is home to approximately 15,400 students and is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast. The University is known for academic excellence, a diversity of experience and attracts students from all over the world. Student life is vibrant and there are in excess of 225 student clubs. Dalhousie is home to 11 faculties and offers 180 degree programs encompassing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate studies. Philadelphia University is a private, coeducational University founded in 1884. Enrollment is 3,200 with 2,500 undergraduate and 700 graduate and continuing-education students. Full- and part-time faculty number close to 400 and there are approximately400 staff members. The University was established as the Philadelphia Textile Institute (PTI) to educate America's textile workers and managers. As the school grew and changed locations, it added additional educational programs that awarded the Bachelor of Science degree. The name was changed to Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science in 1961. Further growth and expansion of degree programs led to the change of the College's s name to Philadelphia University in 1999, making it the only private university to be named after the city of Philadelphia. The University now has six schools, which includes the Schools of Architecture, Business Administration, Design and Media, Engineering and Textiles, Liberal Arts, and Science and Health.
