By: Richard Wolbach, NNECERAPPA Business Partner Committee Chair & Liaison - University of Vermont

The University of Vermont (UVM) Physical Plant has embarked on a student intern program to expose UVM students to facilities management.  This is a paid intern program that allows students (primarily in engineering - but not exclusive) to obtain working knowledge of what our organization does on a daily basis.  In the winter months, e-mails and documentation are sent to the UVM School of Engineering UVM School of Business to solicit for summer intern jobs.  Over the past two (2) years, we have had approximately ten (10) interns.  Primarily, students have come from electrical, mechanical and civil engineering academic areas.  We plan on expanding internship offers to those students outside of engineering, especially in the area of business.

Host a Chapter Meeting and LEED the Way PDF Print E-mail

By: Leo Deon, NNECERAPPA Secretary/Treasurer - University of Maine, Farmington

Has your College or University recently complete a new construction project?  Perhaps, your campus has undertaken a major energy project or retrofit.  Have you resolved a facilities issue that you can share your ideas with others?  Or are you just proud of how your campus looks and operates?  New construction, retrofit, problem solving or existing hallmark operations, why not show other Facilities Professionals the great work you are doing?  I can't think of a better way to promote your campus and the great work you are doing than by hosting a NNECERAPPA Chapter meeting.

The many layers of APPA PDF Print E-mail

By Connie Simmons, NNECERAPPA Membership Committee Chair - Philips Exeter Academy

NNECERAPPA, ERAPPA, SRAPPA, MAPPA, confused yet? Let me try to explain ….

APPA is the national parent organization with a mission "to support educational excellence with quality leadership and professional management through education, research, and recognition." APPA was founded in 1914 in Chicago with 14 institutions; the numbers now exceed 4,800 in 50 states and 7 countries. APPA originally stood for the Association of Physical Plant Administrators.  Later the organization decided to keep only the letters and add the tagline "Leadership in Educational Facilities." APPA offers a range of educational opportunities including the Institute for Facilities Management, The Leadership Academy, and Supervisors' Toolkit. Scholarships are available for facilities professionals to attend these programs.
