  • TECHNICAL TOUR: Tour UVM’s newest facilities and renovations with an eye towards technical innovation and energy efficiency. We will visit the Central Heating and Chilled Water Plant located in the heart of campus which recently underwent a major expansion and houses both steam-driven and electric chillers. We will also tour Discovery Hall, the first phase of UVM’s new STEM complex, and Votey Hall, home to the College of Engineering. This tour will be a technical discussion of overall building and mechanical systems as they pertain to complex state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratory facilities and related central utility distribution strategies for steam and chilled water. We will also discuss how Wi-Fi connectivity was impacted by thermal envelope and window design specifications. Buildings Included: Central Utility Plant (CHP, “Cage”), Discovery (STEM Phase 1), and Votey.
  • HISTORIC BUILDINGS TOUR: How do you adapt 19th century buildings for our 21st century world? We will tour the historic Billings Library which recently underwent a major renovation to upgrade lighting and climate controls to house a special collections library. We will also visit the iconic Ira Allen Chapel and Converse Hall, a residence hall that students call “the castle.” This tour will include a discussion of building strategies, and the challenges and logistics of renovating large historic buildings with stone exteriors and aged interior building systems inside the campus central core. We will be discussing permit issues and how cooperative “town/gown” relationships are needed to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner. Buildings Included: Billings Library, Ira Allen Chapel, and Converse Hall.
  • UVM CAMPUS WALKING TOUR: Join Sal Chiarelli, Director of UVM Physical Plant, on a fast-paced walking tour of the beautiful historic UVM campus. Estimated total walking distance is 4.0 miles on mostly paved walkways and will loop around the entire campus. See major sites along the way including the historic Centennial Field baseball park, the Trinity Campus, the University Green, the UVM Medical Center and the Redstone Campus. We will walk around – but not inside—over 150 buildings of diverse architectural styles ranging in age from 1804 to 2018. This tour is sure to be both educational and FUN and full of UVM trivia.
  • RESIDENCE HALL & RENOVATION PROJECT TOUR: Tour three recently completed major projects including the new Central Campus Residence Hall and Dining Hall which houses 700 students in the heart of central campus. We will also tour Ifshin Hall, an expansion of Kalkin Hall which houses the School of Business Administration and the updated Old Mill Annex/Lafayette Hall classroom facility. This tour will include a discussion of building strategies and challenges regarding networked lighting control systems, challenges of renovating older building systems, and Wi-Fi connectivity issues impacted by thermal envelope and window design specifications. Buildings Included: Old Mill Annex / Lafayette Hall, Kalkin/ Ifshin Hall, and Central Campus Residence Hall.
